Palace of Priests Assembly (PPA) Urges Pentecostals to make every day an integrity day and fight against corruption
The Palace of Priests Assembly and its social arm, the Priests Peace & Justice Initiative (PPJ) join the rest of the world to mark the Global integrity day 2023 and calls on Pentecostals to make every day an integrity day. The Global Integrity Day (GID) is a positive day launched on 9 June 2020, to reflect, teach, and collaborate on ways to integrate integrity in all we do throughout the entire year.
The theme of this year’s Global integrity day is “Faith-based champions fighting corruption, sharing stories and strategies”. The Palace of PRIESTS ASSEMBLY (PPA)/PPJ, a faith-based organization is implementing a Project on Mobilizing Christians Against Corruption in Nigeria (MOCAC), the SHUN CORRUPTION PROJECT. The project’s overarching goal is to promote zero tolerance for corruption among Pentecostals through adherence to positive group norms, peer-to-peer accountability, and the institutionalization of platforms against corruption. The Project is funded by John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
A press statement issued in Abuja by the program manager of the Shun corruption project, Dr. Agbaji Orinya, said PPJ will reconvene Christian Leaders across the FCT to conduct a Capacity building session and a rally in Abuja on Christianity and the Fight Against Corruption to mark the global integrity day 2023. Agbaji said the program will focus on the drivers of corruption within and outside the church and the need to make every day an integrity day. It will also build the capacity of the Pentecostal Leaders to actively participate in the campaign against corruption and social ills from a Christian perspective with an emphasis on ethical values in Christianity that despise them to promote accountability and integrity in Nigeria including issues on the voice and agency of citizens. This according to him will complement, boost and sustain the anti-corruption efforts in the country, push national development, and also strengthen the social responsibility structure and content of the church for the benefit of the members and the society at large.
Dr. Agbaji stated that Christians have a responsibility to stand against corruption because corruption is a sinful social order that militates against the purpose and plan of God for the governance of human society. He urged the Pentecostal Christians, and the entire community of protestant Christianity to examine the biblical warrant for asking Christians to commit to the fight against corruption and stand out clearly in the anti-corruption campaign and advocacy because God is a sovereign God who has identified Himself with justice and compassion and has called His people and whoever will work together with Him to fight for justice.
Orinya urged all Nigerians, especially Pentecostals to support faith-based organizations fighting Against Corruption and urged the church to return to the dual mandate, to support, establish and institutionalize social arms for the Church as an instrument to fight corruption and social injustice.
